Normally it is said that USB can be extended by 5m unpowered & 25ms using active boost cables. This however is not true the length of cable is not as important as the strength of the input voltage and the requirements of the device this means in practice with modern devices high use of power much shorter maxim lengths are recommended i.e. 1m or 2m but check both output and input voltage to be sure.
CAT5 versus CAT6
Cat6 cables, also called Category 6 or Cat 6 cables, provide lower crosstalk, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and are suitable for 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet), while Cat5e cables support only up to 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet )
